Hundreds of women come from Paris to Kobani, from Turkish Kurdistan to Sinjar, Iraq to fight ISIS. They are heiresses of a movement created nearly 40 years ago in Turkey and today based in the mountains of North Iraq: the ‘Free Women’s Party’. Their founder, Sakine Cansiz, an icon, was assassinated in Paris in 2013. Today, this radical movement, has an ambitious objective: to change the history of the Middle East by establishing in northern Syria– guns in hand – a democratic, egalitarian society based on gender equality.
