Born in 1937, David Hockney has spent his life working in almost all areas of the arts - working as a painter, graphic artist, sculptor, photographer and set designer, both at home in the UK and sunny California. In the 1960s, Hockney frolicked among the Pop Art artists, but retired back into his work with increasing age. It was only in 2000 that he returned from his American exile to his homeland.
Director Randall Wright interviewed friends and colleagues of the artist who talk about Hockney's work, relationships and character. Even David Hockney himself has a say. Hockney came out as gay in the 1960s, although being gay was banned in the UK until 1967. The documentary sets a cinematic monument to the long-time admirer of Picasso and his work.
